SPRING 2012 INITIATION CEREMONY

The Spring 2011 initiation ceremony was held on April 15, 2012 and featured Dr. Julia Hodges as the keynote speaker. Julia Hodges is the Associate Vice President for Administrative Services and a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. She is also Interim Co-Executive Director of Academic Outreach and Continuing Education. She joined the faculty at Mississippi State University in 1984 and later became one of the first two women in the Bagley College of Engineering to receive the designation Hearin-Hess Professor of Engineering. She served as the head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the first woman to serve as a department head in the Bagley College of Engineering. She was named Outstanding Faculty Woman by the President's Commission on the Status of Women for 1999-2000 and received the Engineering Career Achievement Award in 2005.

Dr. Hodges received her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her research interests have included database systems, artificial intelligence, and computer science education. Dr. Hodges is a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery. She is also a member of several scholastic honorary societies, including Phi Kappa Phi.



FAll 2011 INITIATION CEREMONY

The Fall 2011 initiation ceremony was held Sunday, October 30, 2011 in the Colvard Union Ballroom at Mississippi State University. The featured speaker and alumna initiate was Ms. Amy Tuck, Executive Director of Campus Operations at Mississippi State University. In her role at MSU, Tuck is responsible for providing vision and strategic leadership for campus operations.

Ms. Tuck was elected Lt. Governor of the State of Mississippi in 1999 and was re-elected in 2003. She served eight years as Mississippi's Lieutenant Governor. She has been a strong advocate for education, from K-12 through higher education, economic development, healthcare and protection for senior citizens, public safety, and civil justice reforms. Prior to serving as Lieutenant Governor, Tuck was a State Senator for five years and served as Secretary of the Senate, overseeing the day-to-day operations.

Ms. Tuck is a graduate of Mississippi State where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration. In 1989, she received her Law Degree from the Mississippi College School of Law.

She has been chosen to receive many awards, among them the 2010 Leadership Award by Women in Higher Education Network. In 2009, she was recognized and honored as one of Mississippi's 50 Leading Business Women by the Mississippi Business Journal. In 2008, Ms. Tuck was appointed by President Bush to The President's Commission on White House Fellowships. She is the only Mississippian to serve on this prestigious commission. And in 2007, she was Mississippi State University Alumna of the Year.
